The Heritage of Victors Roofing

Ending up in a profession can happen because the trade is handed down from generation to generation. Or, you could have a passion for something and make it your profession. The latter is the story behind Victor’s Roofing.

As a young man, Victor Smolyanov, the owner of Victors Roofing, was given the opportunity to choose any profession he wanted. His father, Vladimir, taught his children by his example. He worked hard to put each of his kids through college and wanted to give them opportunities he didn’t have growing up in Ukraine.

The Smolyanov family is deeply rooted here in Southeast Michigan. Even though Victor’s father didn’t move his family from Ukraine until 1996, eight of his father’s 12 siblings already lived here.

During the first summer that Victor spent tearing off roofing, picking up debris and hauling materials up the ladder for his father, he fell in love with roofing. He knew this is what he wanted to do.

The same time Victor started learning to roof, another grunt worker was also learning. He is now Victor’s foreman on roofing projects. In fact, many of the crew members Victor originally hired are still with the company. The team was joined by Victor’s father and brother, Vladi, to make this a true family business. Victors Roofing has been in business for over 10 years now, as everyone continues the family heritage as a family business.

When asked if he would go back and choose differently from the beginning, Victor would not change a thing. He loves putting his name on all of his work and takes pride in doing what he does. On Sunday drives to church, Victor enjoys pointing out the homes he has worked on to his kids.
